How do you feel about AI?
Are you an early adopter? One of the 5% who activity uses AI every day.
Or a little bit curious, but not really sure what all the fuss is about.
Or is it something that hasn’t touched your world yet?
Whatever your views on its adoption, (I’m not here to judge), AI burst into the mainstream and is here to stay. The big players are releasing new models at a rapid pace and with each one there is a step change in functionality.
Even the earliest adopters are running to keep up.
AI is already having an impact on careers. We’ve seen new jobs such as Prompt Engineer or AI Auditor and organisations reducing customer service or clerical based roles. I’ve heard job seekers say they’re concerned about their CV being screened by a computer and there are ethical challenges around inbuilt bias that can result from using AI as part of the selection process.
The whole thing can be overwhelming and lead to what is becoming known as AI vertigo.
So what can you do about this?
Do you race to keep up with the machines?
Do you pretend the change doesn’t apply to you?
Or leave it to someone else to sort out?
Like any significant change, the more data you have, the more choices are open to you.
So if you haven’t already, have a go.
AI’s great to help you craft your CV, or pull out core competencies from a job description. Just don’t copy and paste the opening statement it gives you. It won’t sound like you.
Like all change, the important thing is to recognise it for what it is and to take it at your own pace. None of us get overwhelmed using spell check, so we’ll reach that point with some of the other tools, too.
